To believe is a sin.
Science holds that Earth is 4.6 billion years old, that all life evolved from microbes, and that modern humans first appeared 200,000 years ago – 65 million years after dinosaurs died out ( reference : the National Geographic Magazine-March 2015 edition).
Therefore, Man sudden entry into this world is a scientific fact. However, science argues on reason and truth. Everything has to have a logical begining.
To the scientists, there isn’t an ambit for reason or truth. In Science it’s not a sin to change your mind when the evidence demands it.
The Quran is a way for mankind to reach heaven.Hence, It runs on belief. (Read the following article to understand why you need the Quran more than science).
This life you are going through is stumbled upon. You are suddenly here. Would you allow your consciousness to deceive that there isn’t another life after death?
What if there is a life out there once you die? What if there is Judgment Day? What you have got to lose to believe in the hereafter? But if it is there, then you are a loser. There will be no one to support you then.
No amount of money can buy you a place in heaven. The one thing that gives you the key to the door of heaven is what you believe in the Quran and what you follow from it. And not what you have followed from friends or your religious teacher. Therefore, your real teacher is God Himself.
For a scientist the Quran can be a tool for scientific discovery. But for a believer it is a holy book – a guidance while on this temporal earth. A believer is a follower. Otherwise, to believe is a sin.
To believe is a sin if you do not follow
If you say to someone, “I believe you but I do not follow you” – it simply means you do not believe in the first place. You can think you believe in the Quran but if you do not follow its Commandments and advice, it means you do not believe in it at all.
In 5:91 – ” The devil only wants to cause strife between you through intoxicants and gambling, and to repel you away from remembering God and from the prayer. Will you be deterred?”
If you believe in the Quran you will avoid these two sins: intoxicants and gambling;
You may have heard these claims. People get drunk to get high to get out of life challenges. People gamble to create a hope of getting affluent. However, intoxicant and gambling related crime and social problems are ever prevalent in world statistics.
Fear and hope are the works of the devil. This is to deviate you from “contacting” God to resolve an issue.
God is asking those people who do these activities: “will you be deterred?”
By diverting fear and hope through God, you will find a way. If you’re an alcoholic or an addictive gambler coming across this statement- will you want to believe in God’s help right now?
Finally, if you are a believer but not following God’s advice or Commandment then there is an underlying problem.
Who is a believer
The three components of a believer are that he has:
To believe in God
To believe Judgment Day
To do good works
2:26 ” Surely those who believe; and those who are Jewish, and the Nazarenes, and the Sabians, whoever of them believes in God and the Last Day and does good works; they will have their recompense with their Lord, and there is no fear upon them, nor will they grieve.”
The life of this world is not about any ritual or show off. It is about your belief in One God and your re-entrance to heaven after Judgment. To achieve, your belief has to be accompanied with good works.
I started this blog in 2013. As I write I learn. As I learn I do follow. So it is a win-win situation for me. This article was written after careful thought and effort. There is a cost to me for this blog.
I spend most of the time reading and understanding the good works I supposed to do from the Quran.
I hope and pray that God accepts my good work and allow me and my family to enter heaven on Judgment Day. I do this for the sake of God.
“…and strive with their money and their lives in the cause of God. These are the truthful ones” -49:15
Therefore, a believer is a person who follows the advice and commandments of God. If he does not then to believe is a sin.
Reason and arrogance
We are made to choose. We decide everything on reasons.
Angels do have the power of reasoning as evidenced from 2:30
And your Lord said to the angels: “I am placing a successor on the earth.” They said: “Will You place in it he who would make corruption in it, and spill blood; while we praise by Your glory, and exalt to You?” He said: “I know what you do not know.”
Angels are unlike God. Only God knows the future. In the above drama, angels are merely carrying out deductive reasoning.
Even animals have reasoning ability.
“Until they came to a valley of ants, a female ant said: ” O ants, enter your homes else you will be crushed by Solomon and his soldiers while they do not notice” -27:18
However, animals and angels bow down to God and follow God’s Commandments as in this verse.
And to Allah doth obeisance all that is in the heavens and on earth, whether moving (living) creatures or the angels: for none are arrogant (before their Lord). 16:40
Reason versus Arrogance
The difference between us and the animals or angels is that we are arrogant.
This is due to too much of reasoning. This leads to your own arguments and judgments. If God says He is One, and that there is a Judgment Day, you cannot use too much of your reasoning power to substantiate this.
If you go overboard it leads to arguments and arrogance. Leave the Judgment to God. You just need to do the good works as stated in the Quran.
If your friend invites you to a wedding ceremony in the last hour, it is your own reasoning power to think the host is disrespectful to you. You can just simply take that the host had some really good reasons to invite you not so promptly.
You are not God to judge the situation or the invitation.
A believer is a follower. He follows what God’s Commandments.
Animals and angels prostrate to God. They celebrate praises and glorify God. They carry out what God commands them to do.
They fear their Lord from above them, and they do what they are commanded. 16:50
If you are a believer, you will follow God’s Guidance and take effort to re-enter heaven by doing good works.
We said: “Descend from it all of you, so when the guidance comes from Me, then whoever follows My guidance, they will have nothing to fear, nor will they grieve.” 2:38
If you do not follow God’s guidance you become a sinner. Then to believe is a sin.
